Time for Lovely Fall Weather
Now that summer is ending, come cool nights, warm sunny days and not too many bugs, we are officially into fall. Soon leaves will be turning golden. It is a realy great time to visit Ely.
The Harvest Moon Festival September 5th through 7th with crafts and arts vendors and food trucks is coming. The Chamber of Commerce says that this year's festival has more vendors and several new wood working and jewlery artists. Harvest Bussiness Days sales downtown are an added attraction for visitors and locals alike.
The Ely Marathon is coming up the third weekend of September and it looks to be the biggest one yet. Runners come from all over the country to compete in this run. Our marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon so that adds to the attraction along with the beautiful course to run. And where else do you see folks running a marathon carrying a canoe!!
We are seeing more and more cars with bikes on bike racks arriving in town. Fall is a wonderful time to ride the Masabi Trail and many other trails around Ely including the 4 mile Trazona across the road from Raven's Wing. You can also catch the Masabi just a couple blocks down the road from our B&B.
As darknesws comes earlier and lasts later in the morning, the desire to crawl into bed with a good book can become irresistible. But this is also the best time to go outside, see the stars and catch a glimpse of the northern lights.
This year Ely is one of 24 sites around Minnesota participating in the Bell Museum's Statewide Star Party. Events in Ely coinside with the marathon weekend and offer exciting evening activities. The International Wolf Center hosts a Howling Safari from 8:00 to 9:30 the 20th (preregistration required) and a star gazing event at the Kawishiwi Falls trailhead starts at 9:30 the 20th. Staff from the Bell Museum, Stary Skies North, an aurora expert and an astrophotographer will be on hand for the event. Several telescopes will be available to use and you can also bring your own.
In October the International Wolf Center has a number of special events so check out their web site for more information. The Ely Folk School has some great October classes including one to make beaver musher mittens, just the thing for your winter dog sledding adventures!
September and October are really good times to plan an Ely trip. We hope to see you!
