Spring At Last
It was a long winter and everytime I decided to do a spring blog it snowed again! But now with some wellcome spring rains and warmer weather, it feels time to say spring has arrived and with it our flowers and song birds.
Our gardens at Raven's Wing are full of crocus in bloom and tulips and daffodils beginning to pop up everywhere. May will be a riot of color when the hundreds of tulips and daffodils are in full bloom.
May is a great month in Ely with the ice going out, the fishing openers and city wide sales. On May 16th we have our city rummage sale with many garage and yard sales. You can find collectables, antiques, and much more. Also the same weekend there are sales at stores and outfitters including camping equipment, canoes, kayaks, and tons of fishing gear and outdoor clothing. Some of that outdoor clothing is made right in Ely.
June brings the beginning of the summer season and all the outdoor activities that go with it. Time to canoe, hike, bike, go birding and, generally enjoy the beautiful Boundary Waters and surrounding area. The International Wolf Center and North American Bear Center are well worth spending a few hours at as well as the Dorthy Molter Museum. The wolf and bear centers give you the experiance of seeing live wolves and bears in large natural inclosures and to visit the first class interpretive centers at each facility. Films and displays give a picture of the lives of these magnificent animals that we share our area with.
The Bois Fort Heritage Center is a short half hour drive and is located on the Bois Fort Reservation. It gives you a wonderful introduction to the indigenous population who's home this has been for centuries.
However you spend your time in Ely don't forget we have some great coffee shops and restaurants to fuel you for your adventures. And we would love to host you at Raven's Wing B&B!
