Spring Has Arrived in Ely
This past week all of the last of the snow melted and the Crocus in the Raven's Wing gardens began to bloom. Our yard is full of Robins and the seedlings in my greenhouse are popping up. Rain showers have given us a nice green up and the grass is green and the trees are budding out.
Even in these generally difficult times the signs of spring give us joy. The earth is renewing its promise that life is returning, flowers will bloom, birds will make nests, and animals will raise their young. Raven's Wing gardens will soon be full of spring tulips and daffodils.
We are excited to begin our spring / summer season here in Ely. There are new art gallerys and pottery shops open. Make sure to check out The Meadows downtown filled with local art. And at the Three Jewels Pottery shop you can buy lovely items as well as watch pottery being made. A new antique store has opened too. Firefly Vintage and Goods shares space with the Ely Lake and Pines Real Estate on Sheridan Street.
There are also new places to eat including the Sheridan Street Deli and Boundary Waters Catering located in Mitska's Market on Chapman Street. Both places have great lunches to go or eat in. If you want a box lunch for a days hike or a day of canoeing, these are good new choises to consider.
Northern Lakes Arts Association begins it's spring and summer entertainment with a Reflections Dance Company performance of Water 2.0 May 9th at the Minnesota North College Campus theatre. In June the play Next to Normal will have 8 showings between June 18th and 29th. The musical Sister Act is the July show and will have performances beteen July 7th and July 27th. These shows are also at the Vermillion Campus Theatre.
There are so many things to do in Ely during spring, summer and fall including some of the best outdoor activities including hiking, biking, canoeing, and fishing on the top of visitors' lists. On rainy days the International Wolf Center and North American Bear Center are wonderful interpretive centers. The Ely Folk School has classes to interest everyone and the State Theatre has first run movies every week. If some indoor exercise is what you want Functional Fitness gym is a good choise.
And, of course, just sitting on the porch or in the patio at Raven's Wing and relaxing is always a good option. We hope to see you soon!
